The Midnight Man

It was a cool idea. The Midnight man is a pretty scary ghost, and I like how they showed us him from the very beginning, instead of keeping him behind the shadows. instead they just worked on making the image scarier and scarier as we learned more about the monster.

The midnight Man is a game children play. If they follow the rules they will get out of the situation alive. If they don’t, well…the Midnight man can be gruesome when it comes to his death scenes.

Horror legend Robert England is in the movie in a supporting role as well as new horror legend Lin Shaye from the insidious movies.

This movie seems set up to be a pretty good one, but something did go wrong.

In all fairness if you had the pleasure of seeing this on a big screen at a midnight screening like I did, with a theater filled with people, like I didn’t,  that may have been a pleasurable event. This movie is so filled with plot holes that someone is bound to yell at the screen “Hey stupid, don’t go in there!” or something similar. I’m hoping that that was what the film was designed for, otherwise it’s hard for me to justify those things that don’t make sense.

The story of the Midnight man starts in the 50’s when a group of kids play the game and only one kid follows the rules and wins, or survives depending on how you look at it. This…”winner” grows up to be come a insane old lady , being taken care of by her granddaughter who comes home from college to do it. The granddaughter and her friends stumble upon the Midnight Man game and decide to play it, despite the fact that grandma obviously went insane playing it herself.

Now stupid kids playing a death game is what horror movies are all about, so that’s fine, but The Midnight Man did have a lot of trival moments that you can easily spot in which how the game was played is flawed. I’m not trying to give anything away here, but there were too many situations in which the kids did not have to got through the door but they did anyway.

I don’t know, the story could have been a little more organized then it was.
