Chasing the Dragon

Not a bad gangster film
Saw an article that made a big deal about this gangster film as if China has never done one. I don’t get. I know China has made gangster film before Chow Young Fat made his career out of it, didn’t he. Chow Young Fat made his career as a cop fighting gangsters with violence and style
Though this caliber of gangster film is very different for China.
It’s a true story about and actual gangster during the 70s who created an empire while Hong Kong was under Britian rule.
We got Donne Yen and Andy Lau in the same movie
Really starting to like Lau as if though he was this up-and-coming actor who had not been in the game for years
But this is the acting movie where he gets to show those chops over his Kung fu fighting.
It looks like Yeh used a stunt man for what look like very simple brawling fights which is strange (or maybe he used a different wig got the fight scenes I don’t know.)
Either way this only takes you out of the action and the drama for a brief second to what is overall an amazing gangster film.
