The Mean One

Not too shabby.

Overall, it was not a bad film in general. Like the movie itself says, this version of the Grinch is possibly just a different universe than the Classic animated tale or the live action remake (Those Marvel movies got their hooks in everything). Of course, if I had to pick my Grinch it would not be this one.

It starts off similar to the Grinch we are familiar with but almost instantly the story gets dark, as the little girl the Grinch meets does not affect his feelings on Christmas instead, he infects her, driving her insane after the death of her mom, an event that would take 20 years to get over, and just when she did long enough to sell her childhood home in Newville she gets reacquainted with her horrifying past.

More horror movie than Christmas movie so it’s not really for this holiday season, but because it’s the Grinch they get away with it. Usually, I don’t care about CGI blood but The Mean one’s blood scenes were far two animated and cartoony. Maybe that was the look they were going for, but I think it had the opposite effect one me.

If you are a fan of Dr. Suess, or at least grew up liking his stuff before you became an adult and found out a lot of his material is racist, you’ll enjoy every constant trivia, not just from the Grinch who stole Christmas but other Suess references.

The Final girl was unique to how she handled her slasher, but it would have been more effective if everyone else was not the same cliché.

That Grinch was indeed solid. He felt more like a slasher in one of the many sequels rather than the slasher in the first movie: funnier than frightening and worth rooting for just to see him more on camera.

All and all glad I watched it.
