Final Destination 3

I can’t believe they made it to three movies.

Technically, nudity should be a sure sign that a sequel should not have been made. Final Destination had no nudity, Final Destination 2 had one pair of obscure breast and Final Destination needed 2, just in case.

I should start out by saying that part three has my favorite poster. While the first two movies were all about the pretty white kids who are going to be killed posing for the camera, this movie showcases the literal roller coaster that will trigger “Death’s Design”

I realize now how Final Destination is trying to be like the Scream franchise. In Scream when the Killing starts it’s all about who among them did it. Final Destination goes different but similar, when the Killing starts, it’s all about figuring out who’s going to die next and then watching how they are going to kick the bucket.

Final Destination 3 goes back to the Pretty White kids’ scenario with Franchise architypes as the jockey douche bag whose disbelief in the whole thing even when the evidence is in front of him is totally justified but does not make him less of a douche.  That somewhat goth loner who wants to believe even when there was no evidence, one or two folks who are absolutely terrified that death is coming in a very real non horror flick way and the not too bright ones who hope the person who saw the death can see other things.

Then we have Tony Todd who does not make an actual appearance in the movie. I wonder what was that about? Was it because he was unavailable or was it because they wanted to go a different direction? Either way, that turned out to be a mistake and bring him for voice overs. This changes the character because in the first two films he was explain as just being a dude who understood “Death’s Design”, now we can make the argument that he always was Death’s Design (credited as the Devil (which is different than Death mind you). Final Destination 3 officiated him as the slasher of these films (Todd as Candy Man was way better).

The Action sequence could have been better. Some of the deaths were fast and gruesome, somewhere slow and painful, all could have been better with better CGI.

Although the ending was totally hunting this seems to be the place where the Franchise meets its final destination, but we’ll see.
