Good Burger

So, wait, did Kenon Thompson’s name come first in the opening credits over Kel? That’s kind of messed up. I know the show was Kenon and Kel, but this was Kel’s sketch on All That. Spoiler alert! His name does come first on the closing credits.

It should be noted that Good Burger is just like an extended episode of Kenon and Kel despite them playing different characters, and this is totally more so than All That taking a page form Saturday Night Live and turning their sketches into movies. As popular as All That was in the mid-90s Kenon and Kel reached a new level of cool to anyone under 15 when their show dropped.

Good Burger seems like a quick cash cow to see how much they could milk the success of the dynamic duo. I personally remember it feeling like it came out of Nowhere when I heard a movie was coming to theatres. Without knowing how well it did at the Box office I would say if you were a fan of both All That and Kenon and Kel this movie works on both levels. It perfect extends the sketch about Ed, the dim-witted surfer type who takes your order at the Good Burger. The writers at All That took a huge risk as that 90min film basically stole the material for at least 9 good sketches.

It also captured the obvious chemistry between Kenon Thompson and Kel Mitchell that made them super stars in the Nickelodeon Market.

Really strange seeing the baby faced Kenon Thompson as an actual baby again.

They were so large that they were able to get cameos form Shaq. George Clinton and Carmen Elektra in their movie (I just realized that Carmen Elektra does not look as sexy as I was expecting in Good Burger, most likely because it’s a kids flick).

I still thank the movie holds up today. For me it takes me back to what entertained me in my youth (even though, I did not see this movie as a kid) and its still funny.
