Escape from Mogadishu

I saw the poster and thought I was going to be watching a disaster film (depending on how you look at it). I kept thinking I was mispronouncing the name of the film thinking “isn’t it a place in Africa?”

Despite the reasons that got me to go see it, I really liked it. It was a good story. I don’t know how accurate it is from history but it was a good story. The main plot deals with diplomats from both North and South Korea having to work together to get out of Somalia which has broken out into Civil War.

It truly is a war film. Though, technically the main characters are not fighting in the war they are engulfed in it as they attempt to find a way to get out of town to avoid being killed by rebels. I was a little surprise that the film pulls no punches when it comes to the graphic images of being caught in a war zone.

With that said the movie had some action packed sequences I did not see coming, once I realize this was not going to be a disaster movie so I can’t help but to be full on satisfied by what I see.

Overall, this was a different experience for me when it comes to Korean films, but I enjoyed what I was watching.
