The Debt Collector

Oh wow! Louis Mandylor is in this too! that’s a good selling point for me. Been a fan since he was on the CBS show Marshal Law with the great Samo Hung. Suddenly this Scott Adkins driven vehicle is looking even shinier (Even more so than the 98% match It got from Netflix for me to watch it (Not that it really matters. I like a lot of films so getting a low match is hard).

I can’t remember a Scott Adkins film that does not start out with some ass kicking to set the tone and this movie is no different. Adkins place French in possibly the most classic marshal arts tale there is. He’s a dojo owner down on his luck. Trying to pay the bills he gets a job as a Debt collector in order to keep his dojo going. If this was a video game he would be Paul Phoenix from Tekken (Most likely you are not familiar with the game so real quickly, it’s about a marshal arts tournament in which the character Paul Phoenix enters to raise money to keep his Dojo alive (See same premise in fact if they would have just done that premise that would have guaranteed more marshal arts and a variety of it like The Quest or…another Jean Claude Van Damme film from the late 80s early 90s.)

It does seem like the filmmakers are trying to do more than just a marshal arts film, it’s more like Adkins is adding something to an existing concept. Outside of Scott Adkins kicking ass and taking names he also is talking with his British accent, something that I’m still not use to even though I seen so many Adkins movies, but his accent is deep in this one and it really works with the back and forth he’s doing with Mandylor who plays a seasoned Debut collerctor who needs to show French the ropes.

The Debit Collector is a really good action comedy (Though not really that genre it’s how I chose to describe it cause that’s what makes me like it). Scott Adkins shows his amusing side especially in one scene that was jammed packed with fighting yet hilarious. This movie is a good vesicle to show that Adkins has personality outside just some high kicks.
