Wishmaster

Form the Master of Horror, Wes Craven. Craven attempts to do something different to change the game of horror like he did with A nightmare on Elm Street (and Last House on the Left ( and Scream), but without his hands on approach I was not feeling it.

Good concept exploring the fact that that myth of the genie of the lamp is not like the Robin Williams version  in the Disney movie. (It’s the same thing with fairies. Fairies are actually the most evil creatures ever. Not the spawn of Satan but his jizz when he gets exited, until Uncle Walt got a hold of  them and created Tinkerbell, changing the whole thought pattern(The Mouse House  acutely made a lot of fairy tales less evil.).

Wishmaster is about the original genies that were pure evil, putting the whole careful what you wish for thing in perspective, or actually over exaggerating it. There was one wish in the film when a guy wishes for a million dollars and he gets it after his mother signs an insurance form and then is killed in a plane explosion. That’s what I was expecting. That’s more what the evil genies wishes were like. This genie in the flick seem more driven to see the world end. As the movie went on, he became more of a devil by choice than by design. It was almost like he was wishing to kill all those he granted wishes for. Can’t blame him, after all he’s an all powerful being whose a slave to humans. Although the genie’s exact purpose never was fully realized or I was too bored to realize it. He spent a lot of the movie tricking people into wishing for shit so he can do bad shit to them, but exactly why did not seem to matter. That was the mistake. His magic was mediocre and not scary.

Tammy Lauren was good in it. Think she’s the reason I wanted to see it. She was a regular on the first season of Marshal Law starring Samo Hung and I was a fan so when I saw the movie, I gave it a try because of her. For the most part she walked around looking cute but seem not to do much (Though her last wish to get rid of the demon was cleaver).

She was not the only one walking around looking cute. The movie was a who’s who of the horror scene, with two Wes Craven classics, Robert England (Freddy Krueger) and Tony Todd( The Candy Man) having minor roles. As well as Kane Hodder (Jason Voorhees) and Ted Rami ( From the Evil Dead). It’s great eye Candy for horror fans ( If they are not into horror)

One saving grace is that the movie ends with a song from the great Motörhead. A movie can’t be all bad if it’s got that.

And this movie is not all bad. Interesting concept, cool cameos and someone cute to look at, but it’s not frightening and not intriguing enough to not be the thing I’m watching it for.
