Showgirls 2

Are you serious?

Showgirls was considered one of the worse movies ever made. Not by me however, I loved Showgirls. The film came out a few years before I was old enough to see it, and for me and my friends, the adventure was getting in to see the movie not actually watching it. It was not really that hard of a task for a 15 or 16 year old to get into see an NC-17 movie in Times Square New York before Mayor Giuliani cleaned it all up. Though I hated the Mayor of New York for cleaning up my hangout spot, the fact that I was 15 or 16 doing things and going places far worse than an NC-17 movie totally justifies his actions.

With that said, Showgirls could not be the worse movie ever made in my book. Sure, the story sucked and the acting was lousy, but it was about strippers. How many men who saw the movie as teenagers are going to say this is the worse movie I ever saw?. Especially, if they are like me and grew up on Saved By the Bell. I never fantasized about seeing Jesse Spano naked, but that did not mean that I did not enjoy every second of it.

But I still find it weird that they would make a sequel out of a Razzie award record holder, even if it’s, at this point, in the so bad it’s good category, but they did.

The sequel to showgirls does not star Jesse Spano. Instead it stars Helga. You may remember her from the 1st movie. Spoiler alert (as if you could spoil a so bad it’s good flick) Helga was one of Spano’s fellow strippers who at the end of the film got knocked up by the black dude who was trying to get with Spano. At the end of the movie they were suppose to get married and go to work at Helga’s father’s supermarket or something.

In part 2 it is shown that she’s still with that black dude from the original movie, but she leaves him and Vegas to try her luck in Hollywood.

I’ll give Showgirls 2 credit for knowing how stupid it is to make a sequel to Showgirls. It feels like the movie is more making fun of the first film, as Helga has one idiotic adventure after another on her way too stardom. The point is made very clear by how much they use the small backstory Helga had in the original movie and explore it greatly without it being the main focus of the movie, odd, considering she is the star of this film. Even odder, considering that as I found out at the end the actor playing Helga also wrote, directed and produced this, making it an even  better idea to come back and star in it.

If you see the film, The Disaster Artist, it’s the same feel as that movie pokes fun of the Room, Showgirls 2 pokes fun at Showgirls.

Showgirls 2, delvers some of the same lines and situations as the original film. Even starting out with a similar seen as Showgirls with Helga getting hustled by a dude who offers her a ride out of Vegas.

Other than Glenn Palmer (the black dude from the original Showgirls), I think there were a few other actors in this film reprising their rolls from the original, but their parts in the original were so low level, that I would not recognize them, only the scene that they were in when they bring it up for Trivial reference

For what it’s worth, I did like the fact that it’s a satire that knows how stupid it is and does not seem to care, but I do have one complaint, as there is not nearly enough nudity for a sequel to Showgirls.
