Nothing more terrifying than a clown.

I remember the first adaption of the Steven King novel when I was a kid. I remember being frighten as a child watching it. In fact, I’m sure it’s the reason why I think clowns are disturbing in the first place.

I try not to compare both adaptions to one another. Technically, the one back in the late eighties or early nineties was a mini series and this a movie, so I’m expecting this adaption not to be as detailed.

It is scary, but it does feed off of the latest trends of ghost stories focusing a lot on jump scares, which is not bad cause it does work really well, but not what I was expecting when the source material is King.

But nothing is more scary than Pennywise, man. Clowns are suppose to make you laugh, but they also work too well when they make you scared. As disturbing as he looked when he was showing his monstrous teeth, he was just as scary when he was showing himself as being cute as a button. Either way, I was easily off centered. The film does seem to show off the similarities between the clown and Freddy Kruger (And don’t deny it, using posters of A Nightmare on Elm Street 5 to display which period of time the movie takes place)

Speaking of which, the best part of this movie was the retro 80s homage it was doing. Not just place in the summer of 89, but the movie is styled a lot like it was made in 88 or 89, with this hard PG-13/Light R rated horror flick about Goonies like kids in their early teens. It does not hurt that IT stars well known child star Jaeden Lieberher whose been in a bunch of stuff as the kid a little smarter than his age would determine, and features the lead kid from Netflix’s hit series Stranger Things (another project that shows mad love for the 80s). Would not be surprise if 30 years from now they do a special auto commentary and these guys are talking about how they get stopped all the time by someone who loved this film as a kid (hopefully, they both wont have any bad drug habits by this time)

Overall, the movie is a lot of fun. I had a lot of good scares, and the entire cast of child actors were amusing and great.

Worth the watch.
